Cover Analysis - Passion Pit 'Gossamer'

Colour

The colours used on 'Gossamer' are very bright and quirky. The mixture of colours used is like a sun set. The people then are silhouetted in the foreground of the image making them stand out. This silhouette technique used on the album is similar to the technique used in alot of Alternative dance videos. This therefore shows that for this genre using this technique is conventional, I will then develop this into my own music video project as it looks effective on this album cover.

Image

The image itself is very small, it consists of a girl and a boy doing what looks like dancing. This again reflects the genre as it's called Alternative DANCE thus meaning this music is good to dance and have on at a party. However because they look as if they are outside it seems different to your everyday party scene, if you could see all of the image it may be that they are on a beach similar to the MGMT album cover. Or in a festival type setting. This sort of image of people enjoying themselves will most probably be included in my video as I want to represent the fun you can have with Alternative Dance music. A interesting point is that no members of Passion Pit are present on the front of this album, either because they know now that fans know who they are and what there music is like. Or that they did not feel the need to feature because the point of the album is to entertain.

Layout

There isn't much to the lay out of 'Gossamer'. The picture on both the back and the front is in the centre of the cover, this is so it's the most prominent feature of there album. Thus meaning that the audience focus on the two people and the hands more than anything else. The font for the bands name (Passion Pit) is very plain  and is a complimentary colour to the cover, this is so it is seen and noticed but does not take away any attention to the image and album title. The album name however is smaller but in a contrasting dark colour so that it is seen and noticed with its quirky paint splatter font. Therefore the image can play a prominent part of your main cover as it is in the middle of the frame. This can therefore be used in my project of a way of getting the artist noticed.
