Pop video analysis - Conor Maynard - 'Can't Say No'

This is Conor Maynard, he is your typical pop artist. Very squeeky clean and boyish good looks. The Pop 'look' is very distinctive, young boys in the pop industry all look very similar, for example Conor Maynard, the One Direction boys and Justin Bieber. They all wear similar clothing and girls from about 13 - 16 love them!

The locations in the music video are showing in this picture below...

As you can see the locations are very urban. This is so that the video connects with the audience of Maynard's music. Young teenagers from about 13 to 16. It connects with there lives because of the urban background alot of people have grown up in, it looks as if it is as inner city area which is a very recognizable location. However the party scene is an inspirational location for his audience as they wish to be as popular as Maynard and want to go to basement parties like him. In pop videos parties and the amount of friends the star is surrounded by makes them look very popular. As pop music is aimed at teens from 13 - 16, they look at this video and see it as something to aspire to. Lots of friends, dancing and having a jolly good time.

Another inspirational feature to Maynards video is the props used. For example we see things like Mac computers, recording gear and also the popularly branded headphones Beats. All these items are expensive and something teenagers of that particular age gap aspire to own. Also the youth culture styled clothing represents the audience he wishes to attract. You see many up to date fashionable items throughout pop videos. This again makes teens want to be like the artist they seen on screen by buying these on fashion products.

Overall this video promotes this idea that being popular is the best way of enjoying yourself, it makes parties and being popular seem like a glamorous route of life. Maynard focuses on close ups and establishing shots of these inspirational props and locations to really show the audience what they could have. This is similar to other pop artists videos like One Direction and Katy Perry.
