Genre research - SBTRKT 'Pharaohs' ft Roses Gabor

Locations

This video does not consist of many locations. When there are different location however the look of them is very similar to the point where they could be in the same room/studio. The first is a plain black room which is lit on Roses Gabor the woman singing. The only other thing present in this room are cameras that surround her. Then it cuts to a separate location with just a man in a mask present and then back to Roses Gabor with a mask herself. The location look so similar it's hard to distinguish the difference. The plain settings are conventional for an Alternative Dance video as the artists or bands usually funk up there costuming, make up, lighting and concept but use very normal and simple locations.

 Clothing

In most of SBTRKT's videos a mask is always used. He says he uses a mask to take away his own identity. He calls himself SBTRKT so he can take himself away from the whole process of media coverage and let the music speak for itself, therefore by using a mask it takes himself away from the music and lets it talk for itself. The clothing again is very monotone by using just black and grey tones so that nothing takes the audiences attention away from the music. In this video SBTRKT uses masks as his unique selling point, having something to differ your video from others is very typical of Alternative Dance videos.

 Cinematography

There is alot of midshots and close ups in the video. Throughout the video the main person shown is Roses Gabor. They surround her with camera and then use the shots the cameras get from all angels to cut from quickly so that you can see her continuous dancing and performance from all angels. They also show long shots of the cameras surrounding her. This could show that SBTRKT doesn't want to hide what he's doing just want the music paired with the shots to speak for themselves, very much like the use of masks. Then there is a big focus on the masks, so there are shown from mid shots so that the audience can see that someone it wearing the mask.

 Editing

This video because of the amount of angels the same shot is taken from allows them to cut on the quick beat of the song and still be continuous. It doesn't always cut on the beat, it does cut on the lyrics. The cutting on the beat helps enhance the music and by using the structure for an amplified video it also enhances the music. This is conventional because Alternative Dance music videos are meant to accompany the music and lyrics.
